The main working part of a ball mill is a rotating cylinder installed on two large bearings and horizontally placed. The cylinder is divided into several compartments by partition plates, and grinding bodies of a certain shape and size are installed in each compartment. Grinding bodies are generally steel balls, steel forgings, steel bars, pebbles, gravel, and ceramic balls. To prevent the cylinder from being worn, lining plates are installed on the inner wall of the cylinder.
A ball mill is a grinding equipment for crushed materials, which can be selected from dry and wet ball mills. It should be pointed out that there are many types, models, and specifications of ball mills. Users can choose suitable ones based on material properties, ore discharge methods, and target objects. For example, specialized cement ball mills should be used for cement grinding, steel slag ball mills should be used for steel slag grinding, ceramic ball mills should be used for ceramic grinding, and iron ore ball mills should be selected. In addition, there are large ball mills, small ball mills, new ball mills, high-efficiency ball mills, energy-saving ball mills, etc., which need to be identified according to the actual situation.
When the ball mill rotates, the grinding body adheres to the lining surface of the inner wall of the cylinder under the action of centrifugal force and frictional force generated with the lining surface of the cylinder. It rotates together with the cylinder and is brought to a certain height. Under the action of gravity, it falls freely. When it falls, the grinding body, like a projectile, impacts the material at the bottom and shatters it. The cyclic motion of the grinding body rising and falling is repetitive. In addition, during the rotation of the mill, the grinding body also experiences sliding and rolling, resulting in a grinding effect between the grinding body, lining plate, and material, causing the material to be finely ground. Due to the continuous feeding of new materials at the feeding end, there is a material level difference between the feeding and discharging ends, which forces the material to flow. In addition, the axial thrust generated by the impact of the grinding body on the material also forces the material to flow. In addition, the airflow inside the grinding also helps the material flow. Therefore, although the mill cylinder is placed horizontally, the material can slowly flow from the feed end to the discharge end to complete the grinding operation.
